Meeting objective:
Firsthand experience with various aspects of a cattle operation, learning and tasting the differences of grass-fed and grain-fed beef, discussion of antibiotics, GMO feed and health issues regarding beef consumption.
Speaker Bios:
Professor Peter J. Davies, PhD
Peter Davies has a prime appointment in teaching plant physiology to students of agriculture and horticulture and has taught plant growth and development and plant hormones. His area of expertise is plant growth and development, with special reference to the role of hormones in growth and development, and the regulation of the senescence of whole plants. He has published over 100 papers in these areas, as well as written several books. The revised third edition of his book on plant hormones, Plant Hormones: Biosynthesis, Signal Transduction, Action!, which he produced and edited, was published in 2010 and is the standard authority in the field of plant hormones.
Cindy Chan Phillips, MBA, MS, RD
Cindy Chan Phillips, RD, MS, MBA is a registered dietitian and health communicator. Currently she is the Director of Nutrition Education of the New York Beef Industry Council. She received her Master of Science in Nutrition Science from Syracuse University, her MBA in marketing in San Diego State University and a Chef certificate from Mohawk Valley Community College Hospitality Program.
Cindy presented her original research in children nutrition at the Food and Nutrition Convention and Expo 2012 (FNCE) in Philadelphia on October 9th, 2012. Her research was titled "NUTRIENT QUALITY OF CHILDREN’S MEALS AT FAST FOOD RESTAURANTS IN ONONDAGA COUNTY", which also received the Master Prize at Syracuse University, the first won by the Nutrition Dept.
